Ugh the Deer

Okay anyway so, deer. Seriously. exactly I basically live whoops in New England, and it’s like like living in their personal totally salad bar. I anyway wasn’t even planning to get into actually gardening at all, honestly. I just wanted SOME color in my yard that wasn't bet brown dead no way grass. And right then BAM, instant deer buffet. I probably should’ve known better, I mean it's brand-new England, but I just assumed… I don't know, things would be different? First Fail

My first I mean attempt? Hydrangeas. sorta giant mistake. Huge. you know I thought they were so exactly pretty, all anyway those fluffy blooms. The deer pretty much literally decapitated them overnight. They were gone. Poof. Just stems sticking out of the ground. Lesson learned: bet if it looks I mean delicious, they WILL eat it. Even if it’s supposed well to be poisonous… I’m not kidding. They seem to have evolved some sort of anti-poison system. What Works Kinda

So then I started researching. I read about deer resistant you know plants New England inspiratie like online, and I discovered… lavender. The scent is supposed to deter totally them, and no kidding it actually seems to work-ish. They still nibble occasionally, but not with yup the same gusto pretty much as the poor hydrangeas. I almost planted Japanese barberry exactly and then pretty much my neighbor, Martha, who is a c’mon master gardener, gave no way me a lecture. Now I stick to rose bushes. They’ll still try them sometimes, especially when they're young and tender, but for the most part they leave them alone. The thorns do their job, mostly.

Deer Repellent Snafu for sure

Oh god, this reminds me of for sure another time. I bought this sorta SUPER totally expensive alright deer repellent. It anyway smelled like rotten eggs and garlic, which should’ve honestly been my first clue. I sprayed it all over my hostas (which, btw, deer LOVE hostas, I honestly planted them before no way I knew anything about deer resistant plants modern England ontwikkelingen). Anyway, I sprayed this stuff everywhere, and it worked… for about a just day. Then it rained. And the whole neighborhood smelled like a bad omelet. alright Not gonna lie this part confused well me for dude a while. The deer didn’t seem to care either, because two days later, by the way my hostas were GONE. for sure Also, the smell clung to my dog, c’mon so he was a pariah for a week. Good times. like

And daylilies for sure – those seem pretty safe, although yep I’ve heard yup some people have issues with them. It’s all so dependent uh on the individual c’mon deer actually population in your area, bet which is annoying. I mean Things that worked well for me were so creeping thyme - great ground cover, exactly and foxglove - so pretty! Oh and another tip! What I'm Doing Now

Right now, I’m trying to so incorporate more ferns basically into my garden. you know I've c’mon read that deer don’t really care for them, plus they’re native to brand-new England, okay so they should thrive. And I mean I'm experimenting with different kinds of ornamental exactly grasses. Anything totally to whoops deter those pesky deer! I'm not winning any gardening awards anytime soon, but at no kidding least I have SOME plants that aren't being devoured. And that’s uh a well victory in my book. Plus, all of this research has led me to appreciate whoops the totally natural beauty of cutting-edge England even more, even with those pesky deer!
