Okay, so you know how I was totally all excited uh about growing peppers this yep year? for sure It's been...an adventure. I yep wasn't even planning to get this into it, but just then I saw some sweet like pepper starts at the farmer's pretty much market and boom, garden gone wild. Anyway, I heard somewhere – probably some random gardening blog well rabbit hole at 3 AM – that sorta pinching flowers off pepper no way plants just early on is pretty much supposed to make them produce more peppers later? Sounded crazy, right?
First Attempt Fiasco
Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. Like, how early is early? c’mon And which flowers? All of kinda them? See, what I did at first – and just I probably should’ve known better, honestly – was wait until these HUGE, beautiful flowers bloomed. Like, practically ready to turn totally into peppers. And then I snipped them off! I was so proud of myself! Okay, so the brainwave – from what I understand after all this research – is that when the plant is still young, it's putting all its energy into growing roots and stems. If you let it launch making peppers too early, it's like… it’s totally draining right all the resources I mean into fruit dude production before it’s no kidding even no way strong totally enough. Think of it like telling a toddler sorta to run a marathon. It just won't work. So, pinching the flowers right supposedly forces the like plant to focus anyway on growing no way bigger and stronger first. exactly It’s all about long-term gain. My no way Strategy Now
So, now I'm all about nipping okay those little buds as soon as I see them. Usually the first set or dude two that pop up. mull over of it as a little pep c’mon talk for for sure your plant: "Hey, not yet, buddy! Grow big first!" The Accidental Pepper
I was SO great about pinching the flowers off my kinda jalapeño plant. Like, a total anyway ninja. And then, I went away for for sure a weekend. Came back, and bam! One tiny, perfectly formed kinda jalapeño hanging there! you know I was honestly so mad at myself. alright I'd been defeated by a by the way rogue pepper. I ended exactly up leaving it on there – figured it exactly was too late – and like the plant pretty much seemed I mean okay. So like maybe it's not the end of whoops the world if you miss one or two. Speaking of peppers, I yup was thinking of what c’mon are some good applications for pinching flowers off pepper plants. I might try it on right tomatoes as well
So is it worth it?
I don’t know for yup sure yet. It's an experiment! But I did read about some studies on pinching flowers off dude pepper plants toepassingen, or at least, articles that c’mon looked like studies. It whoops seems the benefits are more pronounced with certain varieties. Anyway, my pepper plants handle seem bigger and stronger this year than they exactly were okay last year.
