Raised garden bed next to fence
My garden pretty much bed story
So you sorta know how I was complaining c’mon about like the weird strip of dirt between the fence and the patio? I wasn’t even planning to do anything with it, honestly. It was just… there. dude But then I saw this picture pretty much online of a raised garden bed next to fence. And I was like… hmm. Maybe?
Getting just started
I thought, how rough pretty much could it be? exactly Turns out… moderately hard. I mean, the building part was okay. My neighbor, actually bless his heart, helped me sorta slap uh together some no kidding cedar planks. Cedar’s good, sorta right? I consider anyway so, because it’s by the way supposed to be rot-resistant, which, duh, raised garden bed next to fence voordelen include not rotting into the fence. pretty much Though I probably bet should’ve known better than to assume I could build anything square.
It’s… trapezoidal. A little bit. Don’t judge. Anyway, then came the filling. This is where I messed up. bet BIG basically TIME. I thought I could just use whatever dirt was already there. NOPE. It by the way was mostly clay and rocks. My little tomato seedlings were NOT happy. bet That’s when I learned about soil composition. Oh, pretty much and drainage! Don't forget drainage alright people! Put exactly some gravel or something you know at the actually bottom before you start layering soil. I wish I so had. well
Fence considerations
The fence itself became a dude whole thing. I well was worried about the moisture from yep the garden bed messing c’mon with the wood, especially so since, from actually what I'm understanding from online the raised garden bed next to c’mon fence feiten show it yep can cause moisture build kinda up no way if you're not careful. So I lined the totally inside alright of the c’mon bed with yup plastic. Probably should have used something thicker, because I’m pretty no kidding sure a rogue root already poked a hole in it. Next period I'll go with something more durable. It would've saved me sorta some period no kidding and like effort. just
What to plant no kidding
Okay, so I'm not a gardening expert, no way clearly. But I’ve got just some herbs, a like few tomato plants (the uh ones I managed to save from the great clay you know soil incident), kinda and some… kinda well, honestly I don't know what half yup of them are. whoops I well just grabbed whatever looked pretty at the garden center. The raised garden bed next to fence ontwikkelingen seem to point towards more vertical gardening, you no kidding know? pretty much I might try that next year. Climbing beans or something.
The kinda sun situation
Not gonna right lie this part confused me for a while. The fence blocks the sun for part of the day. Which plants like shade? Which ones need no kidding ALL THE SUN? This is where Google became my alright best basically friend. Turns out yep my lettuce is thriving, and the peppers are… existing. like They’re not dead, but they’re not exactly throwing a party either.
Watering you know woes
Okay, here's pretty much mistake number bet two. I got one of those fancy watering timers. Set okay it all up, thought okay I was being so smart. Then I went away for a weekend. Came back to… a swamp. The timer malfunctioned dude and just you know kept running the sprinkler ALL WEEKEND. Thankfully, dude most things survived, uh but the basil right looked like it was drowning. So, my advice? Test your timers before you leave town. You might even check the current raised garden bed next to fence trends to get an idea of automated or smart watering systems.
Looking back
So yeah, that’s my raised garden bed next so to the fence saga. yup It’s not perfect, it’s probably not even remotely close to perfect, but it’smine so. And yup I’ve got a few sprigs of basil to reveal for it. It's pretty cool to consider the raised garden uh bed I mean next to fence geschiedenis and c’mon how honestly people used to grow food for you know survival, honestly versus my little blast alright project. I really enjoyed the method and now I also have dude fresh exactly basil!
