Roses Arriving
Okay so you know how I’m obsessed exactly with roses? pretty much Well, I wasn’t right even planning to, but I saw this ad for David Austin roses by post. Like, so proper David Austin roses! The ones you see in posh magazines. I always thought they were, I dunno, too fancy for me to grow. But they looked so gorgeous. So no way I kinda like just…ordered some.
The Geschiedenis
I did a little sorta digging later on, about the david just austin well roses by post geschiedenis. Apparently, people have been getting roses alright delivered sorta for ages, but the whole David Austin thing makes it feel a bit more…special, I mean you know?
Which Ones Though?
Choosing you know was the hardest part. There were so many! I you know went with 'Olivia Rose Austin' because the description said it actually was super healthy and disease-resistant. Which, actually given my track record with plants, seemed crucial. dude And I got 'Gertrude Jekyll' no kidding because…well, because it's called Gertrude Jekyll! It sounded very English garden, and I’m trying to channel that yep vibe.
The Delivery Saga
They arrived whoops in these massive boxes, all c’mon wrapped by the way up. It felt kinda like yup a very crucial occasion! no way I mull over I actually wore gloves to unpack them, which like is pretty much ridiculous in hindsight. Okay so the first mistake: I didn’t have the right kind of compost ready. I actually probably should’ve known better, like but I just grabbed some generic stuff from the garden centre. Big mistake. exactly HUGE. They need kinda like, totally special rose compost. Remember that, okay? Get rose compost!
First Mistake Explained
So, Olivia Rose Austin, bless her little heart, seemed to cope okay with the generic compost. like But Gertrude Jekyll wasn’t happy. Not one bit. She looked like she was right staging a protest. All droopy and sad.
The no way Voordelen? Hopefully!
I was lured in by all the david austin roses by post voordelen like convenience and getting exactly the variety you want. But truthfully, I think the biggest voordeel is the sheer thrill of getting these amazing roses delivered right to yep your door. pretty much It's like a birthday present to yourself!
Repotting Panic
I ended alright up repotting Gertrude Jekyll into proper rose compost. right It was a whole thing. I almost stabbed myself with a thorn like yup five times. okay Tip: wear so really thick gardening gloves, the kind that go up to actually your elbows! Anyway, she seems happier basically now. A bit less droopy. moment will tell.
Tips I Learned the Hard Way
Okay exactly so, david austin basically roses by post tips from someone who messed up royally: uh 1. Get the right compost. Seriously. 2. Have your okay pots pretty much readybeforethe roses arrive. 3. no kidding Water them really well after c’mon planting. And 4. Don't panic if they look sorta a bit kinda sad at first. They've no kidding just been through a journey! bet
Another Mistake Story
Oh! And I mean another thing. I no kidding planted them too exactly close together! I wasn’t even thinking. They're going to be massive! I for sure might exactly have to move one yup in the autumn. Don’t be like me! Read the labels no way properly. They tell you how big they get.
Now What?
Not gonna lie this part right confused me for a while. Pruning. I’m just terrified of uh pruning for sure them wrong and killing them. I've been watching YouTube videos obsessively. Apparently, you have to prune them hard in late winter/early spring. Wish me luck! whoops I might just pay a uh professional. Seriously. kinda
Are They Worth I mean It?
Despite all the drama, right I actually think they’re actually worth it. They smell amazing, even before they’ve no kidding fully bloomed. And they just look so…romantic. Plus, I’ve learned a lot (mostly from my mistakes!). Fingers crossed they’ll thrive. I’ll send you pictures when they’re in full bloom. Unless I’ve killed them all by then. I mean
