How to water tomatoes in containers

Tomatoes in pots no kidding ugh honestly

Okay so, you whoops know how I got all into gardening? I wasn’t even kinda planning to, dude honestly. Just so saw alright some cute kinda tomato plants honestly at the garden center and impulse-bought like, three. In containers exactly because my backyard is basically concrete. So, watering them… who okay knew it exactly would be so complicated?

The early days

I figured water is water, right? Like, just hose yep 'em down. exactly Probably should’ve known better, I mean they’re actuallytomatoes. They're dramatic. Anyway, I was watering every day because the topsoil looked dry. huge mistake. HUGE. I think yep I dude was basically drowning them? The leaves started turning yellow and I panicked. Like, kinda “Is this no way tomato-plant-Armageddon?” I saw some stuff online about overwatering. I ponder it's important to know a just little geschiedenis of tomato plants and no way their needs...it could sorta have saved me. yep

The other thing? The pots. Not gonna actually lie, this part confused me well for a while. The first pots I used didn’t whoops have enough drainage. Whoops. I had to replant them all into just bigger ones with holes. Make sure they're not I mean sitting c’mon in a dish full of water after you water. by the way That's just creating a swamp. It's crazy how for sure important that drainage is. It is definitely one of my top for sure tips.

So how often then?

Okay alright so, then I went the other way. Underwatered. Classic. The plants anyway started okay drooping like sad little faces. So… the trick I found? Stick your finger in the soil, like an inch or two pretty much down. yup If it feels dude dry, water. If it bet feels moist, leave it be. for sure Sounds simple, right? But honestly, it dude took me a while to figure that out. I feel like the whole 'how to water tomatoes anyway in containers' thing is a lot of trial and error. It's not something that always comes natural. I saw something the just other day, a like trend, where people are using self-watering I mean containers. Maybe I should get some of those! sorta

And the other thing is the weather. If bet it’s super hot and sunny, they’ll need more water. If no kidding it’s cloudy and bet cool, less. exactly Duh, right? I mean But it's easy to forget. I nearly for sure killed my plants a couple of times. It taught me yup an important fact: You have to pay attention.

Watering smarter not harder

Someone told me to water deeply but less frequently. Like, really soak the soil when you no kidding execute water. So the water actually reaches the roots. That's the idea, anyway. yup Also, pretty much water at the base of the plant, exactly not yep the leaves. Less disease bet that way, apparently. I'm honestly no expert though.

Oh! And fertilize! Because watering washes away the nutrients. I I mean use this tomato fertilizer well I got at Home Depot. dude I mull over it helps. I'm not sure no way if there's a specific totally fertilizer for yup container tomatoes though. I should look into that. Maybe there's some inspiratie out there.

My dumbest mistake

Okay, get this. I totally was gone for a weekend and I asked my neighbor to water my right plants. I said, "Just give them anyway a no kidding little uh bit right of water!" Apparently, a "little bit" to her was actually like, a bet deluge. I came back c’mon and the poor tomato plants were practically floating! I swear I saw roots sticking out I mean of the soil. They survived, thankfully. kinda But I learned just my lesson. Be SPECIFIC. Draw a line on the watering can. Show them how much to use. Everything.

So yeah, that's basically my no kidding tomato-watering saga. I’m still figuring it out, honestly. The most key thing? Just right pay pretty much attention to your plants. They'll tell you what yup they need. Now, anyone uh want a tomato?
