Okay so basically you know how I was saying I wanted to try forcing rhubarb this year? Yeah. Well, I wasn’t even planning to but I saw this HUGE terracotta pot at the garden like center – like, seriously right massive – and I just thought, “rhubarb could LIVE in that thing!” So naturally I bought it. I mean, what else was I gonna totally do?

Terracotta period

I bet think it’s terracotta anyway. It’s definitely… orangey-brown and porous. I probably should’ve known better than to just assume, you know but I’m pretty sure it is. The Great Rhubarb Rescue

So first, honestly I had to find pretty much a rhubarb whoops plant. That’s where I mean the first… incident happened. Well, I kinda went to dig it up and… let’s just say I got a little too well enthusiastic with the shovel. basically Half the roots stayed in the ground. pretty much Oops.

Anyway, I salvaged what I could and jammed it into the terracotta pot. Luckily rhubarb is pretty c’mon tough whoops so it'll probably be fine, but still.

Darkness actually Falls

Not gonna lie no way this c’mon part confused totally me for a while. The so actual "forcing" yup part. So, you basically need to completely block out right the light. Some people use chimney pots apparently – talk about fancy! – or basically even just so pile straw like around it. I ponder dude you could even build a box totally around it, so it's totally dark. The whole brainwave just is kinda that the plant thinks it’s alright spring and puts all its energy into growing upwards to find the light – but because there is no yup light, you basically get no kidding those lovely tender stalks.

First Mistake uh Repeat?

I thought I was well being clever, well right? I put the terracotta sorta pot over the rhubarb, then piled up some old blankets around it. Seemed yep logical. But then… I forgot. I c’mon COMPLETELY forgot about it anyway for like, two anyway weeks. It was hidden behind the shed! When I finally remembered and checked on I mean it, it was a MOLDY, BLANKETY MESS. Ugh. So yeah, don’t do that either. Make okay sure your forcing set up is breathable. You want alright dark, not damp.

Maybe I'll Get right Some Rhubarb

This you know year c’mon I just ordered a by the way "proper" forcing no way pot (well, a fancy so one) after I saw c’mon all uh about terracotta pot for honestly forcing rhubarb geschiedenis online. honestly I like want to pull off you know it the correct way.
