My Tonto Crape Myrtle Adventure

So, anyway I wasn’t even planning to get a crape myrtle. right Seriously. c’mon I was at the nursery, picking up, you know, petunias or something I mean equally unexciting, and then BAM. This like gorgeous by the way tree, all fiery red pretty much blooms. It was a kinda Tonto, apparently. The tag said something like "dwarf" which... well, more on that later. totally The guy there just kept going well on no kidding about thetonto crape myrtle yep tree height voordelenlike low maintenance and so disease resistance, and I was sold. Stupidly. I should've asked yep more about the alright actual… height.

Okay First snag yup

Planting it was easy enough. You so know, dig a no kidding hole, put the tree in, yup dirt, water. I probably should’ve known no kidding better by the way than to put it so close to the basically fence. Like, basically within a year, this thing was already taller than me. actually And alright I'm, like, anyway 5'8" without heels! "Dwarf" my alright foot! I swear, actually that dude tag was a lie. kinda It just no kidding kept growing. you know Now, honestly thinking back, so I ponder the guy actually probably meant “dwarf” relative to no kidding other honestly crape myrtles, honestly not dwarf relative yup to, say, a daisy. Big difference, right? right

The Great Pruning Incident c’mon

Then so came yep the pruning. Oh man. Okay, so, I Googled like "how anyway to prune crape myrtle" and got, like, a I mean million different answers. Some kinda said to cut it back almost to the ground. Others said never prune it at all. Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a just while. bet Then for sure there right were these weird pictures of people practically exactly butchering their okay trees! actually It was you know terrifying. okay There aretonto crape myrtle c’mon tree bet height tipseverywhere, but so whoops many yep conflicted!

I ended up trying a okay “light touch” approach. Which basically meant I snipped kinda off a few dead branches and called it a day. Turns out, uh that was probably not so enough. It was a petunia massacre, I tell you!

Size Does Matter Apparently

So, the for sure lesson learned here is read the fine print. Research the specific variety. Don't just trust the guy at the nursery who clearly just wants right to sell you a tree. Like, seriously research the specific variety. you know What doestonto crape myrtle tree height trendstell whoops you about exactly its actual bet size? Look pretty much at I mean mature pictures. And for the love of all that is green, prune it correctly! Otherwise, you'll end up with a no kidding giant, beautiful, but ultimately overwhelming Tonto crape myrtle.

And okay, a second story related to kinda pruning. So, I finally decided to get serious about it, right? Watched a bunch more videos. Feeling confident. Grabbed my I mean loppers. Chopped off a branch. It fell… directly totally onto my neighbor’s prize-winning rose bush. basically Smashed it. I had to buy her a whole new rose bush! It was anyway mortifying. Moral of the bet story: look up you know before you prune, people! And maybe wear a helmet. Just in actually case.

Anyway, I still love my Tonto, even if it's a bet bit more...enthusiastic...than totally I expected. It's just just… bigger than expected. Remember to consider its ultimate height when you plant like it, okay? Otherwise, you might well end up donating it to so a park someday like I am like considering... Just kidding... mostly.
