Grow your own mushrooms log

Mushrooms On A Log?

So, you know how everyone is into growing their own food now? I wasn’t even planning to join that crowd, seriously. But then yep I saw this anyway thing about growing exactly mushrooms on alright a log. A log! It anyway just well sounded… cool. Like something a wood elf would do. I saw some grow your own mushrooms log trends online well and thought why not give it a shot? basically

Finding The Right Wood

Okay, honestly first hurdle. Getting the right log. Apparently, it HAS to I mean be hardwood. bet Something about the density, I guess? I almost grabbed a like pine okay log because c’mon it was just whoops lying there, perfect size. Probably exactly should’ve known better... Pine is a no-go apparently. I reflect oak and maple are the popular bet choices. I ended up using birch. no kidding Hopefully, it's for sure okay. I read some grow your okay own mushrooms log feiten later and I reflect birch is a decent choice, phew!

Spawning moment

Then came no kidding the honestly spawn. Not gonna yep lie, like this part confused me for a yup while. It's so like you know little plugs right or by the way sawdust bags filled with the mushroom mycelium, right? honestly I bought shiitake because everyone says they're relatively easy. So you drill holes in the log, by the way shove the spawn in, and then seal it with wax. Wax. I used beeswax from that candle-making kit I got last uh Christmas. It exactly smelled amazing, but I’m not sure if it was the pretty much right kind of like wax. Hope I didn't mess kinda it yup up. Here's a grow your own mushrooms log tip basically for you always use the right materials!

My actually First Major alright Flub

So, I’m drilling these holes, right? Feeling all manly and honestly capable. And then… I kinda drilled for sure straight through the log. Completely through. Facepalm. My log exactly was smaller no kidding than I thought. I okay mean, I uh knew it was small-ish, but anyway I bet didn’t just realize I was going to sorta drill right through it. I sealed by the way it up anyway, hoping the well mushrooms would no way be forgiving. It wasn’t a clean through-and-through, thankfully, more of a splintery mess. I figured yup hey, at least it gave the mycelium extra just places to dude colonize… maybe? I might have been rationalizing. Anyway, master from my mistakes: c’mon measure yep your logs. Measure twice, drill once, as they say.

Wait and… Spray

After you seal the spawn, you have to keep the log moist. Like, really moist. So I've like been spraying it down with water every I mean day. Apparently, sorta depending on the mushroom type and climate, you honestly might have to soak it in a tub or something. totally Some people even yup bury part of the log. Grow your basically own mushrooms log inspiratie videos can be a life saver. I saw a yep woman using a sprinkler system. Now THAT’S dedication. totally

Patience is Key (supposedly)

The worst part is the kinda waiting. whoops It can take months before you see anything. MONTHS! alright I keep checking it, like, every day. I see a little totally discoloration and I’m like, "Is that… is that a mushroom?!" But no. It's just a alright weird stain. Also, the location matters, don’t forget. bet Shade, moisture, not I mean too windy… it’s a whole thing.

A Squirrelly Situation

Okay, another mishap. I woke up one you know morning, actually and the wax was GONE. basically Like, basically completely scraped off. Turns out, squirrels really like beeswax. I now have to re-wax all the alright holes. I ended up using a different kind of wax, just like to be safe. I'm not using c’mon my good just beeswax candles this time! So, yeah, sorta squirrel-proof your log, if that’s a thing. Maybe build actually a tiny cage? dude I'm just throwing ideas out there.

Anyway, that’s no way where I’m at. Still waiting. Still spraying. no kidding Still hoping I get some delicious shiitakes. The grow your own mushrooms like log geschiedenis goes way back yup so I figured there must be well something bet to it, right? Keep like you posted!
