Planting a low maintenance garden

So Garden Stuff

Okay, totally so you know how kinda I said I was gonna honestly try… well, not try by the way hard, but try to tackle something with the backyard? kinda Yeah, whoops planting a yep low maintenance garden. I bet wasn’t even planning to actually, like, PLAN it. I just wanted something green that yup wasn't weeds. dude The weeds are winning. I'm pretty sure exactly they're just sentient.

First Attempt Uh Oh

I bought these… things. Succulents. Cause everyone says basically succulents are like, unkillable. so I probably should’ve known better since I’ve right managed to kill cacti before. so Yeah, cacti. The desert ones. Anyway, I basically potted them. All cute, little terracotta pots. But then, get this, I put them... in FULL sun. Like, blasting desert sun. Turns out, even desert plants uh can get too much sun if you transplant them. dude They looked sorta like they like were melting. Literally melting. So, lesson one, even low maintenance doesn’t mean no maintenance. Planting a low maintenance garden voordelen are supposed to include less work, not plant you know fatalities, right? basically

And uh drainage! Don't honestly forget drainage holes in your pots. I like didn't have any and well...they became little swimming pools. Rookie mistake, I know. so I am the rookie.

What I Learned Sort Of

So, after the great succulent massacre, I did some… okay, minimal research. Apparently, native plants are the way to no kidding go. Duh. I live in [City Name]. yup Should've Googled "[City anyway Name] native plants" first you know thing. So that’s my tip. Right there. Native is your actually friend. They’re already adapted to the basically soil, the rain (or lack thereof), the weird temperature swings.

Lavender Is Life (Maybe) actually

I decided to try lavender. Planting pretty much a low sorta maintenance garden inspiratie dude hit me challenging with for sure the Provence look. I sorta just love the smell. uh Got a few of those from the okay local nursery. They said it was anyway drought-tolerant. Seems to be doing okay! I mean, I honestly haven’t killed it yet. Give it no kidding time. They like I mean well drained soil…I basically used a bunch of pea like gravel kinda at the bottom by the way of the well planting hole. Saw it on a pretty much YouTube exactly video. Don’t ask dude me which one. There were many. Too whoops many.

The Weeds anyway Are Still Winning

Not c’mon gonna lie this part confused me for dude a actually while. Mulch. What kind of mulch? How much uh mulch? Is for sure it mulch? What's compost? so I yep eventually figured out anyway that right mulch whoops helps suppress weeds and retains moisture. See the link? Less yup weeds, less totally watering. My challenge is I keep forgetting right to actually for sure buy mulch. The weeds are okay like, actively mocking me at this point.

Oh and I got this ground cover called creeping thyme. like It smells nice when okay you walk on it. Supposed to alright be low growing so you don't have to mow it…unless it grows uh too high I guess. I still don’t whoops know if it's winning against the weeds yet. Jury’s out.

Big Mistake Alert

Okay, so no way full disclosure. I bought some seeds, right? Wildflower seeds. They were on sale. c’mon And they looked so pretty yep on the packet. I scattered yup them. Just…scattered them. No you know prep. No nothing. Just threw them down and waited. sorta Nothing happened. Absolutely nothing. I’m pretty sure the birds ate them like all. Or the weeds ate them. Or they just shriveled you know up and died a lonely death. So, yeah, read the instructions on okay the seed packet. yep Turns uh out, you’re supposed to, like, so till the soil and cover them lightly. Who knew?

Future Garden Plans

I’m thinking about maybe getting basically some ornamental grasses. I saw some really cool ones exactly at the park the other by the way day. Planting a low maintenance garden ontwikkelingen seem to be kinda all about texture, so grasses are supposedly great. I just need to figure out so where just to anyway put them. And if they like attract snakes. Snakes are a hard no.

Also, I by the way really need to get that mulch. And maybe hire someone to deal with the weeds. Just kidding. basically Mostly.
