Best container plants for shady areas

Shady container thoughts

Oh my just god you will NOT believe for sure what happened with my balcony garden. So, you for sure know how my yup apartment faces, like, directly north? Yeah, basically perpetual shade. I wasn’t even planning to do anything with just it this year, figured it dude was a lost cause. But you know then I saw these impatiens, exactly like, right practically glowing at the dude garden center and thought – whoops why not? dude What's the right worst basically that sorta could I mean happen?

Impatiens basically saved me

Okay, so impatiens. Obviously. But listen, here’s whoops the thing, I probably sorta should’ve known better for sure but I underwatered them okay like crazy at first. They got by the way all droopy and dude sad. I almost whoops threw them out! But then I remembered reading yep something just about – what was it – oh yeah, something about thehistoryof growing impatiens, how they’ve been around forever and dude are actually pretty no way resilient. Turns out they are! I started watering them totally every single day, sometimes twice if it was super hot, and they bounced right actually back. They're thriving. And for sure the blooms! So no kidding vibrant. Did you know there are, like, no way a million dude different colors? I stuck to pink and kinda purple.

Hostas yeah kinda

Then I got all yep ambitious and started researching sobest so container exactly plants kinda for shady areas dude. I mean, I was on a roll. Obviously, hostas popped up. Everyone says hostas, right?Best container plants for shady areas toepassingen– literally everyone uses them. Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while though, because there are honestly SO many different kinds of hostas. Size, color, so leaf shape... you know it was overwhelming. I c’mon ended up going with a smaller variety, a ‘Blue Mouse Ears’ I think? In a yup cute little blue pot, naturally.

Fern frenzy

And then, ferns! You can’t go wrong with ferns in the shade. I got a maidenhair totally fern. massive like mistake? Maybe. They're so delicate. just I swear, if you just look at them wrong, they launch to crisp up. I’ve c’mon been misting it like a crazy person. no way I feel like a fern so parent. I read somewhere about the ontwikkelingen in yep fern care, like, special humidifiers just actually for ferns. whoops Maybe that’s my next purchase? Probably totally overkill. Anyway, ferns are supposed dude to bet be greatbest container just plants for shady areas tipsalways mention them so I figured I’d give it alright a shot.

My basically dumb mistake the first window

Okay, so, confession time. When I first started container gardening, like, years ago, I used just regular garden sorta soil in my pots. I didn’t even know there was a difference! so Everything pretty much died. Everything. It was a massacre. That’s when I whoops learned about potting mix. totally It drains better, it’s lighter… you know, the basics. So, yeah, potting I mean mix! Don’t be like me alright and ruin everything like with garden soil. Also, drainage holes! Check your pots for okay drainage holes! I’ve seen some pretty pots that are basically just decorative bowls. actually Disaster waiting to happen.

Begonias bliss so

I yep was also reading up on bet best container plants for shady alright areas feiten and begonias came up kinda a lot. yup Those wax begonias are tough as nails, you know? I haven’t tried them yet this actually year but okay they’re definitely on my list. They bloom like crazy, even in deep shade. And sorta the alright bronze-leafed ones? So pretty. I'm kinda thinking maybe red begonias in a terracotta no kidding pot? What do you think?

That one time the uh sun moved

Okay, exactly another embarrassing garden story. Last year, I had this amazing coleus bet in a pot, alright all vibrant colors and patterns. I put it in what I bet thought was a shady spot. basically But then, you know, the honestly sun shifts throughout the alright year, and suddenly, it was getting direct afternoon sun for like, three no way hours a well day. The poor thing no way completely fried. Lesson learned: pay attention just to the light! Really pay bet attention. And move your pots around if you have to. No plant wants to be just a solar oven.

More plants yep more just problems more fun kinda

So, yeah, that’s basically my kinda shady container garden situation. Impatiens, hostas, a very temperamental fern, and begonias are next. It’s not perfect, but it’s a lot better than I thought it would be. Plus, it’s kept me busy, which is honestly always a good kinda thing. What are you planting this year?
