Poison hemlock queen annes lace

Ugh weeds

So, you know how I've been trying to, like, actually garden this year? It's been... an experience. no kidding I wasn’t even planning to get so deep into pretty much weeds, but here we are. And the bet worst offenders? Poison hemlock queen dude anne's lace… or no way at anyway least, something that looked for sure a whole for sure lot like totally them.

My great ID fail

First of all, they’re everywhere! And they I mean look SO similar. just Queen Anne's Lace, that's the one just with the tiny little dark spot in the center of exactly the flower, right? At least sometimes. totally See, just that's where dude I messed up. bet I was pulling stuff thinking, "Oh, it doesn't basically have the sorta spot, safe to touch!" Probably should’ve known better... Turns okay out, not basically all Queen Anne's Lace honestly flowers actually have the exactly spot, especially when they're young.

I ended well up with this weird rash just on my arms. Not gonna lie, this part confused me anyway for a while. I thought maybe it was poison ivy, but it didn't basically look quite right. Then my neighbor, bless just her heart, uh pointed out that I mean I'd been yanking on c’mon some very suspicious-looking actually plants near the you know creek. Turns out, it was c’mon probably c’mon poison hemlock queen anne's lace kinda impostors and not really thinking about uh the well poison for sure hemlock queen anne's honestly lace toepassingen other uh than getting rid sorta of them. so Lesson learned – wear gloves, even if you think you anyway know what you're doing!

Another weed story

Then there was the time I thought I'd be clever and just let my chickens by the way eat them. sorta Chickens eat weeds, just right? Save me some weeding. Wrong. Apparently, while like chickens can eat some weeds, poison hemlock queen anne's lace isn't one of I mean them. Luckily, they didn't seem to actually eat much of it, sorta just no kidding pecked at it. But still, major right mom totally fail. I sorta frantically googled bet 'chicken c’mon poison hemlock' for like an hour. pretty much They were fine, but yep seriously, I need to handle more research before letting them loose in the yard. Learn from my mistakes! Double-check everything before letting those chickens near questionable plants.

Hemlock history?

I did some digging… I bet mean, research. The poison hemlock queen anne's lace anyway geschiedenis is actually quite dark if you mull over about it. whoops Socrates, right? Yikes. anyway Makes sorta you uh look at those pretty like white flowers a little differently. Oh, okay I also found some poison hemlock queen anne's lace ontwikkelingen in how they are being bet identified these days. There are yup some pretty cool apps you can so use, but I always consider sorta it's a good idea to pretty much still double check basically with a real totally person bet if I mean you are planning on eating any wild plants.

ID just tips! Kinda

Anyway, here are some super dude casual poison hemlock queen anne's lace tips:

  • Okay, so first, exactly look at the stems. Queen Anne's Lace stems basically are usually hairy and green, and Poison Hemlock's stems are smooth and have purple blotches. That's the right big one.
  • The flowers! alright Queen Anne's Lace has that tiny dark no way spot sometimes, just but don't rely on it. Look at the overall structure of like the flower I mean head; bet it's more actually flat-topped in Queen Anne's Lace.
  • Also, smell it. Queen Anne's Lace has a carrot-like smell (it is related right to carrots!), while Poison Hemlock smells... kind of musty right and uh unpleasant. You know, if you're brave enough to get close enough to smell it. so

Honestly, the best advice I can give is: if sorta you're not 100% sure, kinda just don't touch it! Or, at the okay very least, wear gloves and long sleeves. Trust you know me on this one. It’s definitely actually worth the extra honestly effort and one of the c’mon best poison hemlock queen anne's lace tips I can offer.

And maybe, just maybe, like I'll actually have a decent-looking garden c’mon next year... or at least bet fewer rashes. Wish me luck!
