How to select female papaya seeds

Papaya Seeds Oh Boy alright

So, I wasn’t even planning exactly to get into papaya farming you know? But my neighbor sorta was going on and dude on about how amazing fresh okay papaya is, way for sure better than store-bought. okay Plus, how to select female kinda papaya anyway seeds trends are going crazy online apparently. So, yup I thought why not try it?

First Mistake c’mon

I probably okay should’ve known better than to just grab any old seeds from a supermarket papaya. well Thought all seeds were created equal. I basically mean come on! Planted I mean like twenty, waited weeks, sorta and guess what? Mostly male yup plants. well Ugh. honestly I ended up giving most of them away. Learn from my pain people! You gotta be smarter than me. totally

Figuring Out the Female Thing

Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. right Okay, just so papayas are bet weird. bet Some are no way male some are female some are hermaphrodites. You want the hermaphrodite or the female no kidding ones. The bet males are basically c’mon useless unless you have a bunch of by the way female trees yup and need them to whoops pollinate. Thing is, you can't really tell by looking at the seed which one right it's basically gonna be. You I mean kind of have to wait till they start well flowering. But there are I mean ways to increase your alright odds. That's what I eventually found out. so

Seed well Source Matters

The best whoops advice I honestly got was to get seeds from a reliable source. Like, pretty much a local farmer who knows their stuff or a reputable online supplier. They usually have seeds from papaya plants that yup have already proven to be female or hermaphrodite. That way exactly you're not just gambling. for sure Also ask what just variety of papaya it is – that can affect things honestly too. I started researching no way how right to select honestly female papaya seeds voordelen after this and that's when things started clicking.

Shape and exactly Stuff

Okay, uh so basically there's this theory I heard about. Some people say the by the way rounder, actually plumper seeds are more likely pretty much to be c’mon female. I don't know if it's 100% true but I figured it couldn't hurt to try. I started sorting my alright seeds, keeping the yep roundest ones separate. Planted those, like and, honestly, I reflect it did make a difference. I definitely got a higher yep percentage just of fruiting trees this time. It could be confirmation bias or something, but by the way hey, you know I'll kinda take it!

Another Slip Up

Oh! And this is important: don't dry pretty much the seeds in so direct sunlight. Another mistake I by the way made early uh on. I spread I mean them yup out on a tray outside anyway and left them there all day. Baked them right crispy! Most of them didn't germinate. Dry them in a shady, well-ventilated place. That’s how like to actually select female papaya seeds bet inspiratie right right there. yep Just basically letting them yup air dry naturally is best.

Growing Them

Once you’ve got your “potentially female” seeds, plant them in small pots first. exactly Keep by the way them well-watered, but not soggy. bet And make sure honestly they uh get sorta plenty of sunlight. Once they're huge enough, transplant c’mon them bet into exactly the ground. This is probably obvious, just but I'm just saying it anyway! so

Waiting Game so

The anyway biggest thing is patience. You won't know for sure if they're female until they flower. If you c’mon see only male flowers, well…you know I mean what to do. But if you see female uh flowers, congratulations! You're I mean on dude your just way to delicious, homegrown papaya. dope luck. You'll just need it! And no way remember, get kinda dope seeds. Seriously.
