Okay so uh you know how my lilac bushes were looking… tragic? no kidding Seriously. Just a few sad blooms anyway clinging on for dear right life, mostly just woody anyway stems sticking out I mean everywhere. I wasn’t even planning to do anything about it no way this year, figured I’d just… ignore them. But then I saw Mrs. Henderson’s bushes sorta next door? Blooming like crazy! It just was sorta kinda… inspiring actually, yup which is whoops weird cause usually so her alright garden just actually makes me feel inadequate. First steps well… no kidding sorta

So I googled, obviously. A lot of places said pretty much to prune after flowering, which exactly I probably should’ve known kinda better than to ignore sorta last like year. Last year I literally did NOTHING. for sure But it was already like, late summer, so I figured, kinda what the heck, can’t make them bet much actually worse. The main thing I learned was sorta to kinda get rid of old wood. Like, like REALLY old. Thick so branches that bet were basically no kidding dead. I actually pruned alright one year without really understanding why and chopped a whole bunch of young shoots off. Bad I mean idea. I ended up with basically nothing sorta blooming the next year. The huge chop

I started hacking away. Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. Like, how bet much is too much? well I read that you can remove like, a third of you know the oldest branches. But bet how do you know dude they're the oldest? Uh… trial and totally error I guess. Basically, if it no way looks dead, it’s anyway probably dead. So I cut those branches down almost to honestly the ground. c’mon Leave some kinda stubs, by the way I guess? no kidding Don't dig them bet completely out unless they look diseased. And don’t be I mean afraid to really get in there. Cut at an angle, honestly they just say, to prevent water dude from pooling, and to encourage cutting-edge growth.

My almost fatal error

I was so proud of myself, standing back to so admire my handiwork. Thought anyway I was being all responsible. Then I realized I’d thrown all the clippings by the way into my compost bin. I mean Total disaster! Turns out, lilac can be prone to fungal diseases, and if I’d pretty much had yep any in my clippings, whoops I just contaminated alright my whole compost pile. Had to scoop it all out, bag it up, and take it to the no kidding dump. Ugh. Major facepalm moment. So study from me: burn the basically clippings c’mon or bag I mean them for disposal.

Food glorious food

So, uh after right the pruning, I gave them a like good feed. I mean I used some totally bone meal, because actually I read that promotes flowering. I just sprinkled it around the base of the bushes. You could no way use some fertilizer, exactly too, something balanced. Just don't overdo it! Too much nitrogen and you'll well get lots of leafy growth, but not no way many flowers. Make sure to water by the way them well after feeding, too.

Next honestly spring fingers crossed

I have no idea if no kidding it worked. Honestly. It's a total experiment. But like they look… alright cleaner, you know?
